Control A.2.3: Alignment with other organizational policies

Control in force todayISO/IEC 42001:2023, Annex APrivacy overlay: Scope, role and who answersReading

Establish where other organizational policies may be affected by, or may apply to, the organization's objectives for AI systems.

What control A.2.3 asks

Establish where other organizational policies may be affected by, or may apply to, the organization's objectives for AI systems.

Why it matters for privacy

An AI policy that contradicts the privacy notice, the retention schedule or the security standard is worse than no policy, because each document gives a different answer to the same question.

The 27091 overlay

Where the draft lands: one answer across the policy set. Privacy protection is spread over several policies. The draft reads the organization as a whole, so a contradiction between them is a privacy risk it will expose.

Basis for A.2.3: the ISO page 56582 and the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 control record. No draft requirement is stated here: the abstract gives the direction and the text is not public. Scope, role and who answers.

Evidence for control A.2.3

The list below is what a reviewer will want produced, not described. For control A.2.3 the list is written for an AI system that touches personal data, so a system with no personal data will need a subset.

  • AI policy Analysis of intersections with quality, security, safety and privacy policies
  • AI policy Updates made to other policies or provisions added to the AI policy

Where control A.2.3 commonly fails

  • AI policy conflicts with the privacy or security policy
  • No analysis of intersecting policies

What to do about control A.2.3 before the draft lands

Map the AI policy to the privacy notice, the retention schedule and the supplier standard. Resolve every contradiction in one place and record the date of the alignment review.

Do not rebuild around a draft. Control A.2.3 already requires the evidence above, and the privacy preparation is the same control applied to the personal data an AI system touches.
